Porteous Tiles is a small family business that has been making some of the world’s most beautiful tiles for over 30 years.   The tiles are made in their home studio in  New Zealand.
Their tiles are both original designs and reproductions of some of the most iconic designs from the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts eras (1890-1920)
Tile production begins with a very high quality semi-porcelain clay chosen for its beautiful white color and high firing suitability – this results in a very high quality strong, durable and vitreous tile allowing light to reflects off the white clay to illuminate the rich glazes.
The beautiful artisan glazes were all developed over 30 years by Neville Porteous. Tiles are individually made using  hand made moulds and are all hand painted.  The final product is a tile of exceptionally high quality,  with a beautiful lively individuality.
Please keep in mind that unlike many tiles  priced under   which are photos printed on soft blank tiles with no texture,  Porteous tiles are all handmade with dimension and depth. There is nothing mass-produced or ordinary here.
