    Description

Letter opener by Virginia Metalcrafters 1993; new in cello wrapper. Makes a beautiful gift. I purchased both items from the VMC store in 1994. Photos show a similar opener out of package. You will receive the new unopened one. The opened one is also for sale on a separate listing. The opener is 8 5/8 inches long and weighs 4 oz.
Virginia Metalcrafters in Waynesboro, Virginia, was founded in 1890 as the W.J. Loth Stove company. They originally made cast iron stoves and ultimately created the Hotpoint range. In 1938, the company began to make brass products under the trademark of Virginia Metalcrafters. In 1950 Virginia Metalcrafters began their line of Colonial Williamsburg brass and cast iron reproductions. Virginia Metalcrafters' uses the same hand casting and finishing methods as those used in the original Colonial pieces. In the late 1940s/early 1950s the company employed some of the great artists of the day to create masterpieces in brass. Virginia Metalcrafters closed its doors forever in December 2006.
